The 8th OISTAT Theatre Architecture Competition 2011
NONattendance Theatre
Detaching the stage providing a new situation which performers are nonattendance” is our main goal in this project. The idea came from traditional Taiwanese outdoor play which is “opened” and “informal”. The “instant feeling of people” is highlighted in NONattendance theatre. The various characteristic spaces are designed, creating multi – interaction in the space, while the performers and the stage are transferred into virtual “screen wall”. We hope that It is those virtual images representing performers, audience and the space they staying inside that complete each performance.
The NONattendance theatre is designed like a place for exhibition. We’d like to create a spatial quality which is dynamic and fluidity that can leading people walking around and interacting with the building, forming a continuous experience of the space, which is opposite to the “static way for seeing” in traditional theatre.
The issue of sustainability is also concerned in the project. The hanging system is set up under the roof which is reinforced by cable and steel, supporting multifunction of use.
NONattendance theatre attempts to create a brand-new experience for audience in twenty-two century— the age of media and information exploding. It is a new thinking that is opposite to traditional theatre (ranked, one-way and formal), trying to response to the diverse, dynamic and optional trend of the time.
